Cultural Competence Versus Cultural Humility
Read the NASW "Standards and Indicators of Cultural Competence in Social Work Practice" (2015) from the National Association of Social Workers website. Compare and contrast cultural competence and cultural humility, describing how they are similar and different. Explain the role of self-awareness in cultural competence and cultural humility.
Based on your understanding of the unit readings, reflect on a time or a situation when you have or might have to operate from a place of cultural competence or cultural humility to respond to alienation, marginalization, and/or oppression.
