In the U. S., the approach is to determine how far a car travels on a unit of fuel, while in Canda the approach is to determine how many units of fuel it would take to travel a specified distance. If the U. S. were to approach the Canadian approach, but use U. S. units, fuel economy would be reported in terms of gallons per hundred miles. Which approach would be easier to interpret for you? I'm not asking about changing units, but about changing the way we use them. Do miles per gallon or gallons per 100 miles make more sense to you? Why?
