Arab Spring-What about the women?

In the French and Russian Revolutions, women played an integral role in securing social, political and economic change. In 1789, women in France stormed the Bastille and marched to Versailles in search of bread and Marie Antoinette's head. French revolutionaries penned the famous Declaration of the Rights of Man and the Citizen, a fundamental expression of human rights. But French women couldn't vote until 1945. In late19th century Russia, revolutionary women mounted the scaffold much more readily than men and do so out of a desire to affect real political, social and economic change. The Russian Revolutions ushered in the most momentous changes of the 20th century but women were the last to benefit.

What about women's role in Arab Spring? Certainly women's participation varied by culture and tradition.

Do some research and discuss some of the ways women worked for change in a country affected by Arab Spring. Did their position in society change for the better or did it change at all?
