In regards to medical waste both patients and staff would be at risk but given that patients and visitors are not as educated when it comes to medical waste. There is no doubt that staff are always required to be aware of the rules and to follow them. They are also responsible for ensuring the patients and the visitors are aware of the safety rules and to report problems. True, accidents can and should be prevented but how can a healthcare entity protect itself in case accidents do happen?
