In a second sketch cross-section or 3d block diagram show

(1) Seafloor spreading (see sections 5.6A & 5.14)

Sketch a cross-section of a mid-ocean, labeling all important features at and below the surface. Explain the processes that produce these features and that are associated with the general process of seafloor spreading (including the formation of new crust and lithosphere). Show how the age of the oceanic crust varies in association with the mid-ocean ridge.

In a second sketch (cross-section or 3D block diagram) show how the magnetism of the oceanic crust varies in relation to the mid-ocean ridge (seafloor stripes) and explains how this pattern relates to the Earth's magnetic field.

(2) Hotspots and seamount chains (see sections 5.11ab)

Using either a 3D block diagram or a combination of a cross-section and map, explain how a island and seamount chains may form due to plate motion over a hotspot. Include spatial changes in the ages and appearance of islands/seamounts and causes of these. Include a description of how guyots form.
