In a lab we inflated a pressure cuff to 40 mmHg and occluded a vein with one finger and with another finger we pushed the same vein towards the heart and it stayed collapsed. We did it again but this time pushed the vein away from the heart and the vein swelled. Why does it stay collapsed in one situation and swell in another?
