In a council election 5 people are running 3 seats

In a council election, 5 people are running, 3 seats available, and you want two for sure to win,but no caring who the third is. Should you only vote for the two candidates that you want and leave the third ballot blank or should you vote for the two you want and write-in a random name on the third ballot? Could that throw off the election for the other three? Would it matter statistically?
