Importance of peer review in research and social work


Assignment Task:

"Peer review has been defined as a process of subjecting an author's scholarly work, research, or ideas to the scrutiny of others who are experts in the same field. It functions to encourage authors to meet the accepted high standards of their discipline and to control the dissemination of research data to ensure that unwarranted claims, unacceptable interpretations or personal views are not published without prior expert review" (Kelly, 2014). Peer review as become an important element of the academic writing process. Basically, because it ensure that the articles are being published in scientific journals answers meaningful questions and draw accurate conclusions based on professional executed research.

What makes an article peer reviewed, is when it is written by experts and then gets reviewed by several other experts in the field before the article is published in the journal. This will ensure the articles quality.

The importance of peer review in the research and the social work process is to guarantee that articles are "produce high quality research that will advance the field. Peer review also supports and maintains integrity and authenticity in the advancement of science"  (Kelly, 2014). This is an important factor because in both the research and social work process peer revied articles can confirm, provide, and prove its accuracy when providing information to others and/or clients.

The content and language of a peer-reviewed research article compared to other forms of writing is different because the article is reviewed by experts for an audience of other experts, researchers, or students. Peer review takes things one step further and means that the article was reviewed and critiqued by the author peers who are experts in the same subject area. It gives the article more authority, over other forms of writing. Which can always provide the most accuracy and best outcome when working with peer reviewed editorials.
