Impact of global connectedness on cultures

Assignment:

Think of a current political issue with global implications. Briefly describe a rational approach to addressing the issue. How would the decision makers address the issue in a rational way? What information would decision makers need to know in order to do this?

Draw on course material about rationality and what you have learned about social interactions in a global society to frame your discussion.

Having created and revised your outline in Milestone Two, you will now create the visual facet of your presentation. Keep in mind that your voice will be the primary carrier of your message and that visuals play a supporting role. You want your voice and visuals to work together and not compete for attention, so you should minimize the number of words on each slide and maximize the use of visual elements, including photos, illustrations, and graphs.

I. Introduction

Global connectedness has enhanced cultural understanding through the inclusion of diverse cultures to enhance opportunities for greater interaction in the global arcana. The impact of global connectedness on cultures and individuals is highlighted by its ability to enhance coordination of global activities such as education and trade, develop incentives to encourage participation in international programs and increasing opportunities to study different cultures (Lehtomäki, Moate & Posti-Ahokas, 2015). Through this, success is enhanced as individuals are globally informed on essential aspects that affect global population. Significantly, employers are increasingly calling for effective participation in today's globally connected world, an aspect that is enhanced further by global connectedness (Lehtomäki, Moate & Posti-Ahokas, 2015). Improving the levels of international awareness is essential as this helps individuals build international competencies by enabling them to learn cultural sensitivities and differences.

Global awareness is becoming a core skill for success as this enhances one to meet the extensive demand from an international perspective, for example working abroad (Lehtomäki, Moate & Posti-Ahokas, 2015). The importance of global awareness transcends not only to better jobs but also the acquisition of international competencies that enables one to value and respect the cultures of others, become environmentally and socially responsible, gain appositive outlook of the world and develop cross-cultural tolerance (Buchan et al. 2009).

Globalization results in an array of ideas, such as the fact that the world is growing similarly. McDonaldization is an example of influential developments in the modern society that has been incorporated in different cultures and countries thus signifying the importance of global connectedness.

II. Issue

Global warming, the increase in the temperature of the earth's atmosphere, is a worldwide issue with vast implications for the environment.

A. Notably, Globalization magnifies the problems affecting individuals, especially those that require large-scale human cooperation such as climate change (Buchan et al. 2009).

B. Despite this, globalization calls for cooperation to enhance the mitigation of this problem as it is a global scale issue (Buchan et al. 2009).

In this regard, globalization can be identified as strengthening cosmopolitan attitudes and weakening the relevance of ethnicity or nationhood perceptions. Additionally, globalization increases interconnectedness of individuals worldwide by broadening the boundaries of groups that people often consider to be part of. Through this, issues such as global warming can be addressed through the adoption of effective strategies such as reducing carbon emission and overharvesting of natural resources such as trees.

III. Plan of Action

The ability to effectively address global warming is enhanced by reducing the amount of heat trapped emissions that are being channelled into the atmosphere.

A. Clean Power Plan. This approach is a climate game changer as it seeks to reduce the amount of carbon emissions into the atmosphere (Union of Concerned Scientists, 2017). Currently, companies have been allowed to release an unlimited amount of carbon into the atmosphere thereby causing global warming. Its implementation entails implementation of rules and standards to reduce emissions by power plants.

B. Global Climate Negotiations. Global warming is an international problem. This calls for strengthening of international climate agencies through implementation of policies (Union of Concerned Scientists, 2017). For example, the 2015 Paris Climate Summit converged countries to discuss on global warming as an approach to strengthen the existing policies.

C. Blue Print for Clean Energy. Propositions are in place to transition the world onto the use of clean forms of energy (Union of Concerned Scientists, 2017). This approach not only protects the climate but also reduces the energy costs by relying on clean energy sources and inventions such as the autonomous vehicles.

D. Upgrading Infrastructure. Building contributes one-third of greenhouse gas emissions globally (Biello, 2011). Therefore, investing in infrastructure development or upgrading the existing transmission line, buildings and highways serve as a means of reducing greenhouse emissions, particularly in developing countries.

E. Efficient Use of energy. Individuals in the developed countries are known as profligate energy wasters thereby initiating climate change (Biello, 2011). For example, Uber can be replaced with Lyft that is concerned more with climate change as it accommodates more than one person for a ride.

IV. Conclusion

Support for global warming is enhanced by reducing carbon emissions. This ensures communities across the world have the resources to withstand the effects of climate change.
