Problem Statement: The purpose of this quantitative/correlational predictive study is to examine whether artificial intelligence usage predicts academic achievement generated in Apple Valley, California.
Do you plan for this to be quantitative or qualitative?: This will be a quantitative study that incorporates surveys to determine the correlation of variables as well as their strength and connection as the analysis progresses. It will also include a regression showing a linear regression (or lack thereof in some cases) between the factors in question.
Theoretical/Conceptual Frameworks: The proposed study will not just have one theoretical framework but two. First is the Cognitive Load Theory which proposes that the mind categorizes information learned based on necessity (Patel & Alismall, 2024). The second is the Technology Acceptance Model (Jiang et al., 2025) which focuses on the student's behavior before, during and after time spent utilizing AI for study purposes. Both aspects combined together will hopefully enrich my understanding and potential readers' appreciation of the elements presented.
Feasibility: The participants will range between 10th and 12 grade (9th grades typically do not take History classes) attending either Apple Valley High School or Granite Hills High School. While most researchers in the past would have needed to interview these students and given the proposed study distributes surveys via Google Forms, there is no need to speak to them face to face. If communicating with principals and/or teachers becomes a necessity, they will be obtained reasonably, ethically and legally to maintain IRB duration. Given that the questionnaire will likely include numerical responses, the data will be collected to address the problem of AI in a timely manner.
