Illustrate the pervasiveness of law in our daily lives.
Illustrate that law is both public and private, civil and criminal.
Illustrate the positive nature of the law i.e. most laws are protective, not punitive
Make a list of 3 or 4 of your daily activities. Next to each item in the list indicate whether there are any laws affecting that activity. Report each activity (1 through 5) separately.
Are these laws federal, state or local?
What is the purpose or function of the laws that you have identified?
What is the nature of the laws i.e. public [health, vehicles, crimes, criminal procedure, vehicles and traffic] or private [tort, contract, domestic relations, inheritance, real estate]?
Do these the laws have civil or criminal penalties, if any?
Would you change any of these laws? Why?
