Illustrate the working definition of white privilege

Problem:

Acknowledge and respond to the following in 75 words or more: My working definition of White privilege is the set of unearned advantages and protections that White individuals experience simply because of their race. It does not mean that a White person has not struggled or worked hard in life. Instead, it means their race is not one of the things making their life harder. White privilege shows up in everyday ways, such as being less likely to be racially profiled, seeing your race widely represented in leadership and media, or not having to think about how your race may impact how others treat you. As someone who is biracial, I feel like I have a unique perspective on this. I have seen how race can shape the way people are treated, even in subtle ways. That experience has helped me understand that privilege is often invisible to those who have it. Recognizing White privilege is not about blaming or shaming anyone; it is about acknowledging systems that have historically favored certain groups over others. In the field of social work, being mindful of White privilege is especially important because we serve diverse and often marginalized communities. Social workers are called to challenge oppression and promote social justice. If we are not aware of how privilege operates, we may unintentionally minimize client's experiences with discrimination or assume that everyone has had the same access to opportunities.
