Problem: Provide a response to this post - Some of the most infamous cases of unethical research studies were the Nazi experiments on Jewish prisoners during World War II and the Tuskegee Syphilis study in which African American men were purposefully given syphilis and denied treatment (Farmer & Farmer, 2020) . These studies lacked informed consent, exploited vulnerable populations, and exposed them to serious and unnecessary harm. As a result of these unethical experiments, the Nuremberg Code and Belmont Report were created to protect research participants from harm and exploitation (Farmer & Farmer, 2020). According to Farmer and Farmer (2020), ethical research should not require participants or the researcher to engage in unethical behaviors or practices that could lead to harm or danger, nor should they violate the NASW Code of Ethics or any other professional code of conduct. Research should be beneficial to others without compromising the safety of research participants. The knowledge gained from ethical research should be used to improve professional practice and service delivery, inform policy, advance scientific understanding, and promote the common good by reducing harm and improving services for future individuals and communities (Farmer & Farmer, 2020).
