How do you think their unique group culture help moderate their power distance?
There are of course shortcomings with this culture, as with any other. There is a Japanese saying that goes: "The protruding nail will be hammered" (p. 46). As Gannon and Pillai write, "the Japanese tend to wear the same type of clothes and behave as if they were one person" (p. 48) This can be seen in the image of the people waiting in the subway. There is much pressure for conformity of the individual with their group culture. Iwashita Tomoyuki's article attests to that as well.
