1. I am retired now due to medical reasons but cultural awareness in the workplace and your life is very needed. In my neighborhood we have children who are very poor. Many grow up in the wrong way. Since this has happened many of us older women have decided to take our youngsters and help them grow up with responsibility in their life. Teaching them to stay in school and to respect others. We opened a small neighborhood church and have little picnics in the summer. Play games to keep them occupied and safe from the bad scenes that growing up has to offer. Our neighborhood is all cultures and we try and teach them to respect their cultures as well as others. They appreciate that we are trying to help them grow strong and good. Many of the children have gone on to college and made good lives for themselves. However, we do lose some to crime and drugs but that is not an easily thing to fight. We just have to keep strong in helping them. peer pressure is so hard for young children.

2. Good posting, fitting example of why cultural awareness is extremely important. It can be extremely vital when there are multiple cultures in a work place to have a clear line of communication as well as resource available to assist those who need the training. I have experienced times when communication was not possible due to language barrier and can do damage in the work place. So now every time we have new event I get familiarized with the attendee's culture before the convention opens. Your post was both informative and interesting.

1. One problem in society today that I think is seriously misjudged or misunderstood is mental illness, any form of it, social anxiety is a big one these days. When someone is diagnosed with a mental illness, right away we think that its not a real illness. Most of the time this individual looks perfectly fine on the outside, so that means to most people that they must be faking it, or that they really are not sick. Just because we do not see what is causing an illness, does not mean we should judge. Some people might say, "you have everything you could ask for, what do you have to be depressed over?' Or tell someone to snap out of it. When in reality, the person who is sick, can not tell you why they are depressed or feel what they feel, because most of the time they do not know themselves. If we think before we judge these people or any person who might be going through something that we do not or can not understand, then we might realize that these people really do have an illness.

2. The problem that I want to discuss is an attitude of dependence. I work in an area that who's economy is largely based on tourism. Our area is very busy from late February until mid-December every year and very slow the rest of the year. Employers plan yearly to hire big in the spring and lay off almost everyone in the winter. Some of these employees use this down time to collect unemployment checks and do nothing. They live around the poverty line year round, but don't try to advance themselves during their downtime because they will lose their unemployment. I would like to take some time when I retire or sooner to utilize Paul and Elder's 6th dimension of problem solving. "Adopt a strategic approach and follow through on that strategy." I think that it would work to use that downtime to be involved in a volunteering program to teach these seasonal workers marketable skills and create opportunities for them to achieve full time year round employment. I think that we could involve some of the very same area employers that lay these people off to teach what they are looking for in an employee who merits full time work.

1. Reliability is someone or something that is dependable and trustworthy. Validity is when something is confirmed as being true and can be measured. Job candidates that are most likely to be in high terms of their reliability and validity based on the assessment given and their responses. The assessment could result in something like a false positive. For instance, if given an assessment online and to be done at the convenience of the candidate, the candidate might feel more comfortable and answer the assessment differently than he or she would answer the same questions in a classroom setting.

2. Quality of measure consists of both reliability, which can be defined as consistency (providing consistency in measures regardless of the number of times administered), and validity, which can be defined as accuracy of measurement and prediction (this can be obtained via scores from a measure). There are various procedures that can be used to estimate or test reliability. Candidates that most likely high in terms of reliability would be candidates that displays exceptional performance day after day, solid performance in all aspects of work, and can be counted upon for steady performance.

1. Bank reconciliation is needed to keep records accurate. This can be used as an internal control to help track deposits and withdrawals and is a record that is in black and white. It can be watched and can be used to reconcile hand written or other computer records. I think that someone other than the one that receives the cash payments should be responsible for the bank reconciliation. By having a different person do these tasks it keeps the deposits and credits honest and seperate from each other making fraud and theft more difficult to accomplish. This also helps to cover each other's behinds as well during audits to make sure that everything is accurate.

2. Using the bank reconciliation is something than many business use in order to check their numbers by what the bank is receiving. In my old job we used to deposit money every night into the bank via the business deposit box. If our numbers on the sheets did not match the banks in any way we would receive a call to fix things. I think using this method it the best thing to do. It allows the business to get another set of eyes on the total money going into the account. I do not think someone else who is there should be doing the bank reconciliation because it allows more peoples hands on the cash. I think the fewer hands and people this cash goes to is the best in order to track any wrong doing. I think with the amount of theft in today world this is an important thing that companies should go to. Using this method would allow you to catch people who are taking advantage of the company and stealing cash that needs to be deposited into the account. Overall I believe that all companies should be using bank reconciliation when dealing with all banking transactions.
