If i didn''t have the dance

Need to write a Proposal and proposal will set out the thesis or argument of your final paper and the sources you plan to use to support your ideas.
In your final paper you will be exploring how the role of dance - as performed in the narrative of two dance films( I chose the movie Flashdance (1983) and Fame (1980)) - evokes specific issues in order to advance the plot, character development, message and/or outcome of the two films.

You may wish to compare and contrast the performance of or implications of one or more of the following critical terms or theories:
•Gender
•Feminism
•Homophobia
•Social mobility
•Racism
•Socio-historical setting or contemporary events (for example, the Vietnam War)
•Urban / rural dislocation
•Religious / ethnic tensions
•Classicism
•Otherness / exoticism
•Appropriation
•Socio-economic status or class struggle
•Aesthetics / authenticity
•Commercialization / commoditization
•Identity / subjectivity
•Violence

For your proposal you will need to show that you have researched 4-5 scholarly articles that speak to these issues and relate the thesis, arguments and evidence in these articles to your analysis of the two dance films.Be sure to connect your arguments to the movement and/or dance technique portrayed in both films.

In your proposal you should:

•Clearly state your research question and the two dance films under consideration. For example:

How is tap a vehicle for identity and social mobility for the protagonists played by acclaimed tap dancer Gregory Hines in the films White Nights (1985) and Tap (1989)?

•List 4 or 5 articles with full MLA citation that you are planning to use. No more than two articles may be from the assigned readings.

•With each article you should be able to provide a direct quote that you will be using to ground your argument(s) and connect it to your essay. For example:

Source #1: DeFrantz, Thomas, F. "Being Savion Glover: Black Masculinity, Translocation, and Tap Dance," 2002.
https://web.mit.edu.prx.proxywebsite.co.uk/people/defrantz/Documents/begloverdoneshort.pdf
Accessed November 22, 2011.

Quote: "If I didn't have the dance to express myself, I would probably be stealing your car or selling drugs right now. I got friends who do that, but tap saved me." While these words diminish the liberatory potential of tap to a pedantic role as a socializing discipline, they also suggest a nuanced interior life of a tap dancer who makes choices to become himself through dance" (DeFrantz, 2002, p7).

In DeFrantz's article the author quotes hip hop tap celebrity Savion Glover and then explains how through tap Glover achieved self-realization. In Tap, Gregory Hines' character perceives tap as a life line. It is through tap that he is able to....

•You will need to do this for each source.
