Assignment
Consider Niditch's description of various war ideologies operative in the Bible and the modern world and how any kind of media about war (news, movie, history book, monument, etc) may reflect one or more of these ideologies. For this journal entry, consider some war monument, its depiction of war, and how it fits (or not) with Niditch's ideologies. First, identify/describe what you have selected for consideration, then discuss how it represents war. Some potential media samples you might consider: (at least 500 words)
• a war monument you have visited in the DC area and describe how it represents war in terms of Niditch's ideologies and wider observations about what the monument seems to communicate about wear in general of a particular war memorialized.
• the story of David and Goliath in 1 Samuel 17 (OR, if you prefer, 1 Samuel 16-2 Samuel 5 generally) and describe how this text represents war.
• a story from a newspaper news broadcast
• a history book (or excerpt)
• a Confederate monument caught up in current controversies (but only a specific monument you know).
