Identify which of the primary source documents pages

John Brown Paper Assignment

Directions:

In a minimum of five paragraphs, and a maximum of eight, identify which of the primary source documents (pages 385-391) most effectively make their case for or against John Brown.

Use the documentary "John Brown's Holy War," for any necessary background information as well as our textbook and its discussion of Bleeding Kansas and the raid on Harper's Ferry.

For your supporting paragraphs where you discuss the sources you will want to properly cite the source by identifying which document you are discussing (Doc. 12.6-12.11)

You are analyzing the language these people used at the time to describe and analyze Brown's attack on Harper's Ferry, so quoting directly in small doses is beneficial.

As this is an argumentative paper (you are taking a position on which of documents are most effective) you will want to briefly acknowledge one or two of the documents that are not effective and why. That only strengthens your argument.

Avoid using "I" or phrases like "in my opinion."

After I have graded the essays, you will need to upload the paper with the grading rubric attached into the ePortfolio which is part of eLearn. We will go over this process in class before the end of the Maymester.
