Assignment: Coaching Through Change and Uncertainty
Change is ongoing and, in some cases, rapid and unpredictable. Leaders must have the skills necessary to work through rapid and unanticipated changes (i.e. budgetary cuts, changes in staff, changes in organizational protocol, ownership changes, etc.). As one might expect, working under these conditions can be difficult. Research has shown that leadership challenges are significantly different when emotions are running high and people are stressed. Thus, Executive Coaches must learn how to lead and effectively coach leaders in times of organizational change and uncertainty.
Write a 5-6 page paper (excluding title and reference pages), addressing all of the following:
• Identify the specific challenges an Executive Coach faces when coaching through times of rapid change or uncertainty.
• Describe the leadership qualities that are most important for Executive Coaches to display when working with leaders during times of rapid change or mounting uncertainty.
• Discuss how the various roles that an Executive Coach takes on in the context of change or uncertainty might be contradictory.
• Categorize the skills or practices that might need to be minimized by an Executive Coach when coaching a leader through change or uncertainty.
The response should include a reference list. Double-space, using Times New Roman 12 pnt font, one-inch margins, and APA style of writing and citations.
