Many folks appreciate communication shortcuts to quickly transfer meaning. Emoticons are an example of a communication shortcut. For your initial response, identify and discuss the need for emoticons in electronic communication. Choose one of the following upon which to base your response:
a) I love emoticons! Within business communication time is money and communication shortcuts are essential.
b) I hate smileys! Within business communication we must be precise and clear in our communication, so communication shortcuts should never be used.
c) Life is complex and there is a middle ground, and limited use of emoticons can help me improve the effectiveness of business communications.

a) Discuss what information you found surprising in this week's course materials and why.
