1. Identify several parts of the human brain that are affected either directly or indirectly by psychoactive drugs. Describe such areas and how they are affected by drug usage.
2. Distinguish among the following terms: physical dependence, psychological dependence, tolerance and withdrawal sickness. When does one become another? Is there a fine line? Do some quick research on marijuana and dependence and cocaine and dependence? What did you find? Make this very brief.
3. Identify several criteria established by the American Psychiatric Association by which to describe a drug-dependent individual. What do you think about the classifications.
4. Describe addiction or drug dependence as a process.
5. Illustrate the range of drug dependence possible and the way some people can move across the continuum as they become addicted.
