Task 1:
Identify one network hardware component that either; your network uses, a network you have access to uses or failing that a network component that you are interested in. If it is something that you have access to, take a digital photo of it, or try to obtain a picture from the manufacturers website, or failing that draw a rough diagram yourself and include the picture/diagram in your answer. Add labels to the picture to identify key parts of the component you select and how it is connected to the network.
In your own words, briefly describe what the selected network component does, list its main features, supported protocols and describe how it is connected to the network, and include an approximate cost of the hardware.
Ensure that the picture you include uses suitable compression, i.e. use png or jpeg format, to make the picture a reasonable size before placing it into this document. If you do not take a photo of the component yourself, ensure that you do not break any copyright when copying it - ensure you reference the source correctly.
Some suggested network components: ADSL Router/Modem, Network Switch, Network Hub, Network Interface Card, and Dialup Modem.
