1.) In class we discussed that our society is largely divided using a strict gender binary system. Sometimes we are so used to seeing these divisions that they seem normal or natural to us (e.g. gender segregated bathrooms, or the example from one of our readings about lining elementary school classes up by gender). Identify one example of our gender binary system in action (e.g. gender segregated bathrooms), and propose a solution that we could use if we abandoned the binary system (e.g. gender neutral bathrooms).
2.) The idea that sexuality is an innate trait has gained a lot of traction in popular culture in recent years. We've seen songs like Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" that have sparked rallies, social media campaigns, and more. After this week's discussion and readings, what do you think about this strategy? What critiques would you offer? How do you think authors like Nancy Ordover and Ruth Hubbard would respond to this strategy?
