You were provided with a brief handover of this patient - 61 year old Robert Bobbit who has been in hospital for some time with a Streptococcus infection. Today he is short of breath, tachypnoeic and feeling generally weak, constantly nauseous and has a headache. Mr Bobbit has been passing only 150-300ml of urine per day, has developed oedema in his hands and legs, his potassium levels are 5.8mmol/L and the doctor is concerned about his decreasing red blood cell count.

The doctor has just been in with Mr Bobbit and advised him that his Streptococcal infection is the cause of his acute kidney injury. The differential diagnosis is acute glomerulonephritis.
