Identify improvements that made to meet legal responsibility

Problem

You work in a supervisory role in an early learning service that caters for children aged from 6 months to 5 years. The children come from a range of ethnic backgrounds although the majority are mainstream Australian.

The service values focus on quality service, acceptance of and accommodation of diversity, ethical values and the delivery of sound learning and play experiences in line with the curriculum and the National Laws and Regulations that apply to children's educations and care in an approved service.

Staff are well aware of the NQF, NQS and ECA (Code of Ethics) conditions, but the service has not reviewed its policies and procedures for some time.

You have been asked to oversee a review process to ensure that the services' policies, procedures and practices comply with the relevant legislation and ethical standards. Feedback from educators and other stakeholders suggests that improvements might be necessary.

Describe, in detail, the procedures you would follow to conduct the review and to suggest improvements if they are needed.

Explain how you will:

1. Identify, access and interpret useful information about the legal and ethical obligations with which the service must comply
2. Determine the best ways to adhere to legal and ethical requirements and manage legal or ethical issues or dilemmas
3. Assess the current service policies and procedures to determine how well they support compliance with a range of issues
4. Involve relevant stakeholders in the process
5. Identify improvements that should be made to meet legal and ethical responsibilities
6. Document and present recommendations
