Identify five sources from something other than magazines

Course - Introduction to International Politics

You will begin the process of writing a five-page paper and this assignment is divided into 4 parts. Please pay close attention to each assignment and think through how it will affect the final product. Please choose a topic that is related to international politics/ international relations.

You will submit a 300-word explanation of your topic, which will involve an answer to the question why is X happening (or why did it happen). You may select your topic from any aspect of international relations, such as why is terrorism happening? Why is poverty in Africa happening? Why is global warming happening? Why did the Cold War end?

Make sure you clearly articulate the thing you are hoping to explain, including a comment on what you are not going to address.By way of advice, let me suggest a few thoughts about how to get the most out of the paper assignment. To begin with, think a great deal about the topic, since the choice represents a commitment. You may want to do a bit of research as you consider topics, just to make sure you will be able to find what you need

Using the same topic, Identify five sources from something other than magazines or encyclopedias (including on-line encyclopedias) that might help you explain the topic in question. Provide a brief (30-word) summary of each item along with a citation that would allow someone else to find it.

Still using the same topic, identify a theory from the Kaarbo and Ray chapter 1 of ''Global Politics 10th edition by Kaarbo and Ray' that you think provides the clearest explanation. It should also fit the materials you have already read on the topic. Provide a 300-word explanation of your choice of theory. Note that you should continue doing more research on the topic on your own, since you will be expected to have at least ten sources in the final draft.

This part is the final draft. The paper should be five pages long (double-spaced), or between 1200 and 1400 words. It should open with a clear statement about the topic you are trying to explain, including appropriate definitions of key terms and a comment on why this is worth studying.

The next section should cover the theoretical approach you have chosen and why you think this theory will explain the topic. The body of the paper (about 3 ½ to 4 pages) should lay out the evidence you have found in your research in a logical way. It is all right if the evidence turns out not to be absolutely convincing.

The final section will provide a summary of what you found and whether your initial conjecture was correct. Its OK if the answer is no, most theories fail to explain many things, after all. What is more important is that your conclusions are accurate. The bibliography (which does not count as part of the word count) comes last and must include at least ten items.
