As described in this chapter, some organizations have chief diversity officers, whose job it is to monitor and improve the diversity and inclusive character of the organization. In other organizations, this role may be carried out elsewhere in the organization, such as the human resources department. For this exercise, identify that individual in a particular healthcare organization who has responsibility for improving its diversity and inclusiveness. Conduct an interview with this person to identify the major diversity and inclusion issues facing the organization. Suggested questions include the following:

1. Does the workforce in this organization resemble the patients being served in terms of race, ethnicity, language, religion, and other dimensions of diversity? Need Assignment Help?

2. Does the organization monitor employee attitudes about inclusion? If so, how is this done? Can you tell me of a time when information about employee attitudes led to an intervention or organizational change?

4. Are underrepresented minorities present throughout the organizational hierarchy? Is there a system for assertively supporting the professional development and pro-motion of members of minority groups?

5. Does this organization routinely collect information about turnover by demographic group or other dimensions of diversity? If so, have significant patterns emerged in the likelihood of members of certain groups voluntarily leaving the organization?

6. What do you see as the major challenges in creating a diverse and inclusive culture in this organization? What steps has the organization taken to meet these challenges, and how would you assess their level of success?
