Diagnosis of "Art Austin"
People's reactions to severely stressful situations can be influenced by their own cultural beliefs about the causes and implications of those situations. One culture might recommend meditation, and another medication. In this Application, you will examine the role culture might play in a diagnosis of a trauma- or stressor-related disorder.
To prepare:
• Review this week's Learning Resources.
• Review the case of "Art Austin" in the course media titled "Surviving Trauma and Tragedy."
• Consider the similarities and differences between acute stress disorder and PTSD.

1. a summary of Art Austin's experiences and symptoms.
2.Construct a diagnosis and provide information supporting the diagnosis given.
3. Identify any other disorders you would want to rule out.
4.Consider what you could do to assist the client in reducing or removing the stressors. (psychotherapy for intervention, Trauma Focused CBT )
5.Consider how culture or ethnicity could influence the assessment, diagnosis or treatment planning processes.
