A hospital board recently noticed that a large number of presentations to their Emergency Department (ED) are elderly, many living in local care homes. The ED has decided to run the following intervention on a trial basis: The introduction of a geriatric nurse into the ED. The objective is to attempt to (1) decrease the number of elderly presenting at ED, (2) decrease the waiting time for those presenting at ED, and (3) decrease the proportion admitted to hospital via ED. Identify and discuss the key issues associated with the above intervention. Evaluate the suggested intervention by: identifying the potential costs and benefits. Please explain in details.
