Criminal statutes include all or part of the five elements of criminal liability. Every state and local jurisdiction has criminal laws and ordinances.
Initial Post Instructions
Choose a crime from a local newspaper or website. Research the criminal law defining the crime. Then, address the following in your post:
Identify and discuss the elements of the crime that the prosecution has to prove beyond a reasonable doubt: actus reus, mens rea, concurrence, attendant circumstances, and bad result.
If one of the five elements is missing, identify the element and detail.
Detail why the element is not present in the definition of the crime.
Finally, describe how the prosecutor can prove beyond a reasonable doubt the elements listed for the crime.
