Identify and define the central dilemma presented in the

You are the HR manager for Appalachian Valley College, a fully-accredited private Baptist college located in western Virginia. While your college does not offer ministerial degrees, it seeks to present its education with a uniquely Christian world view. All faculty members are required to present and subscribe to religious and social views not in conflict with the college's religious charter, which includes the belief that marriage should be reserved for one man and one woman only.

Dr. Jane Madison, a philosophy teacher for fourteen years, announces that she is gay and teaches in the classroom that her lifestyle (including same-sex marriage) should be legalized nationwide and should be considered religiously and socially acceptable. As HR manager, you are required to support the religious charter of the school, and Dr. Madison is directed by your office to abandon desist from teaching her views on LGBT issues or face termination. Dr. Madison threatens to sue the college for violation of her Title VII rights, and continues to teach as she sees fit.  As HR manager, what should you do? What is the likelihood of success of Dr. Madison's threatened litigation?

Students will complete the assigned case study as a way to increase learning through application of course material in complex, real world situations. To complete the case study the student will:

Identify and define the central dilemma presented in the case

Select and gather pertinent areas of consideration, and identify critical data and stakeholders (if you need to make assumptions about any of the facts in the case, be sure to specify these assumptions in your analysis)

Gather additional information and research as necessary

Identify and investigate all appropriate possibilities to resolve the central issues, and present at least three different options

Select and present the best solution and include support for the decision that recognizes positions of all the stakeholders

Describe how to implement the best solution and include strategies to address the known challenges. Also include the likely implications of the selected solution.

This paradigm must be followed; students may not simply respond to the questions at the end of the cases, although they may be useful in developing the framework for your answer. Any sources used in the analysis should be cited following APA guidelines. Deductions will be taken for grammatical/punctuation/spelling errors. The following rubric will be used to evaluate the student's case study analysis in the remaining seminars.
