The below is the instructions for the assignment also found in the syllabus:

The assignment must be THREE COMPLETE PAGES long, times new roman font (size 12) and double spaced. 1 inch margins all around. Please note the reference page is not part of the three pages.

Three complete pages means, the writing goes all the way to the bottom of the third page. If the document is not three pages long points will be deducted.

PROMPT: Identify an example of a statistical research finding in a mainstream media outlet (newspaper, magazine, broadcast television, etc.) and then locate the actual study or peer-reviewed journal article that served as the basis of that media report.

- Pick any article in the mainstream media that has statistics involved in it. It could be medical, political etc. You can Google it or it can be from a newspaper or magazine. Your choice. Just make sure you reference the source.

2- Find a scholarly journal that backs up the data on that article. Some articles already have them in the reference or within the article.

3- Follow steps 1-5 in writing the paper using the article you found.

Based on the information provided in the mainstream media report and the original research study, please answer the questions below: 1. The research question(s) and hypotheses 2. The independent and dependent variable(s). 3. Describe the overall design of the study (sample size, methodology, etc.). 4. Summarize and evaluate the conclusion of the study author(s). 5. Identify any pertinent information regarding the actual study that was excluded from the mainstream media report. You can write if you agree or disagree with the article; and if you would of done anything different.
