Identify a geographical issue or conflict and summarize any

Overview

The final project for this course is the creation of a research paper on geographic conflict. In the paper, you will identify a geographical issue or conflict. The paper can summarize any country (or region) in the world and must appraise both the selected country's (or region's) physical geography and human geography. The paper should describe the impact of resource scarcity, issues with boundary delineation, separatism and sovereignty issues, poverty, migration, legacies of colonialism and imperialism, global climate change and its impact, and any geospatial conflict that has been previously approved by the course instructor. The paper should conclude by drawing from all previous course overviews, resources, and tasks to define solutions or different directions that can be taken by the chosen country (or region) to resolve the conflict(s) at hand. The final product represents an authentic demonstration of competency because it presents the student's work in a research paper on geographic conflict. The project is divided into three milestones, which will be submitted at various points throughout the course to scaffold learning and ensure quality final submissions. These milestones will be submitted in Module Two (final paper topic, submitted as a journal post), Module Five (final paper rough draft), and Module Seven (research paper on geographic conflict).

Milestone One: Final Paper Topic (submitted as a journal post)

Milestones

In Module Two, you will submit a final paper topic (submitted as a journal post). In a journal, describe how you will approach the process of generating your final paper's rough draft and bibliography, due in Module Five. The post should be 500 words, not including a list of 7-8 outside resources/references you will consult. Specifically, assess ways your chosen country (or region) has impacted or modified the physical and/or cultural environment to its benefit or detriment. Analyze the advantages and disadvantages the chosen country (or region) has attained due to its location. Identify the major conflict the country (or region) faces.
Regarding this conflict, describe potential solutions. This milestone is graded with the Paper Topic Rubric.

Milestone Two: Final Paper Rough Draft
In Module Five, you will submit a final paper rough draft in Word format, 3-5 pages in length (not including the list of 7-8 resources/references). The rough draft should assess ways a chosen country (or region) has impacted or modified the physical and/or cultural environment to its benefit or detriment. Describe additional aspects of the chosen country's (or region's) geography and conflict, evaluating how you feel personally about the issues involved and analyzing the location's advantages and disadvantages in relation to its conflict. Define solutions or different directions that can be taken to resolve the conflict. Include at least 7-8 appropriate, scholarly resources/references. Be sure to draft or include descriptive maps and graphics appropriately referenced. This milestone is graded with the Rough Draft Rubric.

Milestone Three: Research Paper on Geographic Conflict
In Module Seven, you will submit a research paper on a geographic conflict in Word format, 7-10 pages in length. The paper is to identify a geographical issue or conflict; summarize any country (or region) in the world; and must appraise both the selected country's (or region's) physical geography and human geography. In the paper, describe the impact of resource scarcity, issues with boundary delineation, separatism and sovereignty issues, poverty, migration, legacies of colonialism and imperialism, global climate change and its impact, and any geospatial conflict that has been previously approved by the course instructor.

Conclude by drawing from all previous course overviews, resources, and tasks to define solutions or different directions that can be taken by the chosen country or region to resolve the conflict(s) at hand. This research paper should be a complete, polished artifact containing all of the main elements of the final product.
