Homework: Introduction to Africana Studies
Length: 4 to 5 pages.
Choose one topic (essay 1 or 2) and respond to all sections of the essay you have chosen.

With close references to Azevedo's Chapter 4 and 5 and relevant documentaries write an essay that:
• Briefly introducesthe topic in relation to what you are going to discuss in the rest of this essay.
• Identifies and critically evaluates examples of the cultural and psychological impact of the Trans-Atlanticjourney on the Africans captured into slavery
• Discusses the treatment of enslaved Africans in one region e.g. North America, South America or the Caribbean in terms of the work they did and their lived experiences and how the institution of slavery contributed to this region economically and politically.
• Identifies efforts (at least three) that contributed to ending slavery in North America. Describe one in detail and highlight the impact it created.
• Compares two ways in which slavery and colonization are similar and two ways they differ.
• Draws conclusion based on the sources consulted
