Ichnology: This is the study of foot prints. Ichnology is a type of branch of geology which deals with traces of organismal behavior like as burrows or footprints. It is commonly considered as a branch of paleontology; however there is only one division of ichnology that is paleoichnology, deals with trace fossils. An ichnologist is scientist which area of study and research is ichnology.
Ichnology studies are based on the analysis or discovery of biogenic structures its features caused by living organisms. Burrows, trails, trackways or borings these all are examples of biogenic structures, but molds and casts of dead shells and other bodily remains are not examples of its. To keep trace or body fossils nomenclatorially separate, ichnospecies are used for erected the trace fossils.
