Part 1

Du Bois was probably the most influential African American of the early 21st century because he taught the value of self-respect, fought for political power, was insistent on civil rights and pushed for higher education of the Negro youth.

I plan to show how my chosen author uses pathos as a mode of persuasion to prove his point in his essay, Of Mr. Booker T. Washington and Others. Du Bois feels Booker T. Washington's programme is just accepting that the African Americans are an inferior race. (Richard Nordquist) Emotions were high and he wanted to prove his point that acceptance was not the answer.

I am studying to be a coach. My dream job is to coach College Basketball. As I research and evaluate others works in this class it will help me do the same in all of my other classes to hopefully in the future put together the best game plan and philosophy for my future teams to be successful. I wish I would have taken this class sooner, I am down to anatomy and kinesiology to finish my degree and this would have been some wonderful information to have during my psychology classes and coaching fundamental classes.

Part 2

In "The Damned Human Race," Mark Twain uses pathos in order to persuade his readers to to analyze their own moral sense. Twain (n.d.) explains that "Of all animals, man is the only one that is cruel. He is the only one that inflicts pain for the pleasure of doing it. Although satirical in nature, his animal-to-human comparisons can trigger relatable emotions, forcing readers to become empathetic to how he views humanity. His statement regarding man being cruel, although a generalization, can ignite his audience's memory in regard to mankind's history of war and devastation.

Critically evaluating an author's work can be used in future courses in a few ways. To begin with, being able to perform a correct evaluation can assist in teaching other students how to get their point across in a non-bias manner. Another pro would be to assist myself in correctly writing in order to explain my point of view and ensure I use correct support, instead of writing materials that is full of fallacies.
