Work from a strong thesis sentence. This statement provides a roadmap for your essay by presenting an issue or question that you will address. A good way to start a thesis sentence is with the word, “whereas,” or “although.”
Each paragraph should have its own thesis sentence subordinate to your overall main point. A good format for writing paragraphs is using the claim, evidence, analysis progression.
Five paragraph essays work well for this type of assignment. In the first paragraph you present your thesis. The second, third and fourth provide examples in support of your thesis and the final paragraph is a summary and conclusion.
