Based on the shear friction approach, the shear capacity on a potential failure plane may be increased by increasing the amount of steel reinforcement crossing the plane. However, design codes which deal with shear friction design place an upper limit on the magnitude of the shear force for which the plane can be designed. Explain why this is so.
