How you would explain function to someone

Problem

Excel can provide data analysis when you need to evaluate multiple conditions within one formula. With that being said, select a feature or function in Excel that has been covered in the course and share with the class how you would explain it to someone who is unfamiliar with Excel in the form of an analogy. An analogy has a brief description with a comparison of two items to show the similarity.

One such example includes using the TEXTJOIN function. The TEXTJOIN function in Excel merges strings of text from multiple cells into one cell. Someone might attempt to explain that, for example, the TEXTJOIN function can join a person's first and last name that are in two different cells into one cell like a marriage license joins two single people who live in two different homes into one home.

There is a learning principle that states that being able to explain a topic to someone using non-technical terms or an analogy demonstrates a true understanding of that topic. With that being said, do not try to explain how it works in Excel technically or how to perform the feature or function but relate it to something that can be easily understood, like the aforementioned text join feature analogy. View the video below on how to write an analogy, then think of your own analogy using Excel.
