Imagine you are part of the Care Team for an organization that helps adults with disabilities secure employment outside of their independent living facility. You've just been introduced to Jake, a 35-year-old Hispanic male who has been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Level 1, Without Accompanying Intellectual or Language Impairment. Jake has had a job before, but the most recent at a coffee shop didn't work out because he was not following food sanitation protocols and would get angry and lash out verbally if the manager tried to remind him of the rules. Jake yells, "I try hard but can't seem to do anything right and you don't want me to work here anymore, because you don't like me!"
What additional information would you need to know about Jake in before considering the following:
- Ways to teach additional self-management skills to Jake
- Ways in which we may implement cognitive-behavior modification
- Ways we would implement generalization
