Do I Have to Share My Cookies with You?
Chapter 14 of the text examines the ethical principle of Distributive Justice. Those who seek to address problems caused by 'Deck Stacking" and unequal distribution of wealth must tackle the problem of exactly how to do that. While many wealthy people practice philanthropy (the desire to promote the welfare of others, expressed especially by the generous donation of money to good causes), other wealthy people feel they have earned their wealth and intend to keep it to themselves. We will explore this ethical dilemma more next week. For the purposes of this assignment, you will consider the very different views of mandating the distribution of wealth from those that have to those that have not. Personalize your view of distributive justice.
Include the following aspects:
i. Locate a definition of distributive justice that is your favorite (include the reference)
ii. Share which fish you consider yourself to be: the little fish for which you have received little justice, a middle-class fish for which you have received some justice, and the big fish which receives the majority of the justice in the world
iii. Do you believe the ethical principle of distributive justice should be followed? Why or why not?
iv. What types of goods would you want placed in your distribution?
v. How would you provide for those goods given income equality?
