You want to clone a eukaryotic gene and express the protein in bacteria. Design a method and discuss what control elements you need/do not need for expression. The protein typically localizes within mitochondria. How will you perform your gene cloning so that the protein is secreted from the bacterial cell?
Other attempts to clone this gene discovered that the gene product produced in bacteria was much larger than should be observed based upon the protein sequence. What led to these longer gene products? How would you go about investigating your hypothesis? What should be done in order to produce a correctly sized protein product in bacteria?
