Problem:
Online discussions are forums for the exchange of ideas. The discussions in this course are designed so that you interact with others in the class during a specific period of time. This gives you the opportunity to react to and learn from others in the class, and to share your ideas and experiences so that your classmates can learn from you, and you from them.
Once the discussion is closed, it's graded on the basis of both content and frequency of participation. This will explain the factors that are taken into account when your posts and replies are graded after the discussion has closed.
This module focuses on how various historical/systemic intergenerational and social issues impact certain correctional client groups. These issues are not always considered when categorizing what constitutes a risk factor and how the results of assessment tools, for instance, are applied in the field.
For this discussion, imagine that you are a correctional client (either in the community or a correctional institution). From this hypothetical perspective, try to address the following questions to the best of your ability:
What correctional tools, practices, and policies could result in you being disadvantaged based on the intersections of the identities you may identify with? (Examples include race, gender, age-older-younger, education, ethnicity, addiction, poverty, living far from home/in a city)
How would you feel as a correctional client if you were disadvantaged in this way?
What would have to change in the correctional system for these disadvantages to be removed, or at least for their impacts to be minimized? Need Assignment Help?
You might have to use your imagination to place yourself in this role. If you have some personal life experience that relates to this discussion, you may wish to share it. Try to project from your own personal life experience to empathize with the client persona you choose to adopt. You would definitely be in the minority!
