Problem
The newspaper La Era Digital (LED), with 100% online publications for the last decade, starts a server virtualization project. Server virtualization is a software- based technology that makes it possible to run multiple different operating systems as guests within a single physical server host . They are called virtual machines (VMs) that run on a virtual imitation of server hardware. For this change, the IT project team must basically perform the following steps: server acquisition, virtual server implementation, creation of virtual machines, system installation and connection to SAN ( Storage Area Network ).
During the execution of the project some inconveniences related to:
1) Consolidations of network switches and servers onto a single physical server that require the use of new management tools.
2) Security patch updates, by having everything in one environment there could be an oversight in the control of updates to operating systems and applications.
3) Consolidation of servers, because there are several applications acquired from third parties for specific areas of the organization.
You, as a project manager, must consider the different aspects regarding the adaptation of the project to the situations presented.
Then answer the questions and do the activity:
A. How would you carry out the adaptation process in the situations presented during the virtualization of servers in the case presented? Explain each step.
B. What tasks would need to be carried out if the project needs to be adapted in terms of life cycle selection and development approach? What should the portions or elements of the processes that also require adaptation be like?
C. Select at least three potentially competing demands that you consider necessary for adaptation with respect to the context, goals and operating environment of the presented project. Justify your selection.
