How would the story be different in different time or place

Problem

Consider which character you connect with the most in the text. Why is this character so relatable to you? Describe how your shared experiences are similar and/or different to your chosen character. How is their situation and response comparable to how you would or did react?

Select a character in the text who reminds you of somebody you know. Explain the similarities and pull evidence from text and examples from the person's life to prove the connection. Describe specific events that both the character and the person you know share and explore how their responses are both similar and different.

Select a character from one of your texts and based on what the character says or does, what can you infer about their attributes/personalities? Make direct connections to the text to support your inferences. Explore the characters motivations in relation to actions they take.

For example: The cartoon below depicts two differing character types or personalities. Lucy, being a character who needs control and power, continually sets Charlie Brown up to fail as he attempts to kick the football. Charlie Brown, on the other hand, is eternally optimistic that Lucy will hold the ball in place.

Describe the setting of one of the texts studied. What is its significance to the story? How do the characters respond to the setting? Consider the time period your text is set in, how does this impact the story, the characters, and their response to circumstance. How would the story be different in a different time or place?

What is the nature of motivation for the protagonist and how do you know based on their actions, their response to circumstances, how the other characters react and respond to them. Use evidence from the book to support your answer. What forces or conflicts inhibit the protagonist's actions or choices? How do these adversities impact the protagonist's growth and development?

A theme expresses an attitude toward human values, made dramatic and concrete through action. Identify the major and minor themes in this text? What human truth, like honesty, power, ambition, courage, control, selflessness etc. are expressed and how do the themes connect to the human experience. How do you connect and understand these human truths in your life? Has your understanding changed over time?

Are there any particular symbols or motifs in this text? What is being symbolized and how, are the symbols subtle or overt. What impact does the symbolism in the text have on you? How do the symbols reinforce the themes and deepen your understanding of life and humanity?

How does the author express their attitude (tone) towards the subject being discussed? What details are used to express tone and is it consistent or does the tone change over time? How does the tone of the author or mood created impact your response or connection to the text?
