How will you measure the candidates skills

Problem

MMC has created a new coding position to handle the increase in workload resulting from the addition of the EHR to the Emergency Department as well as the implementation of the outpatient prospective payment system for Medicare patients. You are the new supervisor of the outpatient services team with almost 10 years of coding experience. Since being promoted to supervisor, you have never been responsible for interviewing employment candidates. See attached a resume of one of the numerous candidates applying for a coding specialist position. Your own manager (the assistant director of the HIM department) has already developed a detailed job description for the new position. She has promised to help you to get ready for the interviews. Still, you are more than a little nervous about taking on this part of your new job.

Review the resume and job description and answer the following questions:

a) Consider what attributes you would consider important in a candidate

b) Carefully review the applicant's resume. Do they meet the minimum requirements? Consider making a list that matches requirements to the applicant's qualifications.

c) As a new supervisor, what should you do to prepare for this job search?

d) How will you measure the candidate's skills?

e) How are you going to assess whether the candidate will fit into the current dynamics of your group?
