My major takeaway from this course is that nursing informatics plays an essential role in the future of health information technologies and the way nurses and clinicians will deliver patient care. The use of IT, nursing science and other sciences together enable providers and nurses to safely store PHI, track and store accurate patient data, communicate with patients, manage medications, provide education, evaluate and diagnose. Nursing informatics also creates a smoother clinical workflow which increases facility efficiency, increases patient safety, improves quality of care and patient outcomes.
I did not realize nursing informatics would encompass so many different sciences and theoretical nursing knowledge. Learning the basic definition of nursing informatics is what lead me to identify my major takeaway from this course. The knowledge I learned about informatics will allow me to be open to new and exciting healthcare information technologies and their many benefits. I will help promote these new technologies in my facility because I do know the future of healthcare is continuously developing and evolving.
