How will the world be different once your vision is realized

PPT Homework

Prior to completing this interactive homework, read Chapters Five and Fourteen from your text and read the article entitled ""The Poor Kids' Table": Organizing Around an Invisible and Stigmatized Identity in Flux" (Warnock & Hurst, 2016). They set the stage for this  homework.

Your vision is your dream. It's what you think are the ideal conditions for your community-that is, how things would look if the issues that are important to you were completely, perfectly addressed. For this homework, you will create a PowerPoint presentation that tells a story-the story of your vision coming true.

Choose a social welfare issue that is meaningful to you, and tell your story using a minimum of eight slides including a title slide. Your PowerPoint story should contain the following parts:

1) A brief description of your chosen social welfare issue and its context, including its history and what oppressed groups, if any, will be served.

2) What is your vision? How will the world be different once your vision is realized?

3) Decide who will be the "hero" of your story. A mayor perhaps? A local women's group? What individuals or groups will help your hero in his or her quest?

4) What does your hero need to do to make the vision come about? What are your hero's tasks?

5) Decide on an antagonist for your story. This can be an individual, a group, or even an institution. What obstacles will be placed before your hero? Describe whether your hero will deal with others having misguided notions of deserving versus undeserving poor coloring their policy decisions?

6) Solution: How will your hero's unique abilities overcome the obstacles?

7) What does the world look like now that your vision is achieved? Conclude your presentation with the happy ending you hope will come about and any next steps your hero might want to take in the future to continue or enhance your initial vision.

Attach your PowerPoint presentation to your initial post. In your post, answer the following question in at least 150 words: What would it take for you to personally be the hero in your story? Could you be an advocate for change and make important changes to social welfare policy in your neighborhood, community, or region?
