Assignment: Solar Power Farm

Castaway Island, a remote island in the tropics located some 400 kilometers from the mainland, Pacifika, can only be accessed by ferry. Castaway Island's main source of water is provided by the various springs on the island. However, relies on diesel fuel to power the generators on the island for electricity. Castaway Island has a village with an estimated population of 150. The village is located on a hilltop, 5km from the island's main jetty. Access to the village from the jetty is via a narrowunsealed road. The households have access to running water however maintaining a constant flow of electricity has proven to be difficult at times. This is due to the increasing cost of diesel, limited inter-island transportation. Occasionally, especially during cyclone season, the islands electricity comes to a halt due to not having diesel because of limited inter-island transportation. Caring For Others (a NGO) director, Mr Steve Gates, who is spear heading climate change and living sustainability program, has appointed you the project manager for the project "Power For Castaway" and you are to report directly to him. Upon meeting Mr Steve Gates, you are informed that the "Power For Castaway" project involves the construction and implementation of solar power farm on the island to help sustain the need for electricity on the island.
