Assignment: African American and Society
How is black media, integration, the black press and the history of color people affecting African Americans in society today VS. back then ? Select an example of the black media you want to study. Let's say your select Ebony Magazine or another example or representative of black media, the next thing is what to look at. For instance, how did Ebony magazine cover the killing of Emmett Till Or, you could compare how two newspapers, one black, one white covered one story that affected blacks. How have representations of minorities (African Americans, Asians, Latinos, African, etc) by the dominant media evolved over the years? For instance, how was The Black Lives Matter covered in two newspapers you select. Explain what has changed and what has remained the same. Ask a question about How those characters are represented in a show today, and discuss how much has changed when compared with earlier times.
